Hollywood celebrities who stand with Israel
Since Hamas attacked Israeli civilians on October 7, 2023, the Israel-Hamas conflict has escalated to the point where tens of thousands have been killed on both sides. Hollywood stars have spoken out about the conflict, and several of them continue to stand with Israel after five months of war.
While many stars have shown their support for the besieged civilians of Gaza, some stand with Israel in its quest to free hostages and eliminate Hamas. Let's see in the following slides who support Israel.
The Israeli 'Wonder Woman' actress has spoken out in favor of the army she served: the Israeli Defense Force (IDF). At the 100th day of the war, in January 2024, she said in a video message to Israeli soldiers: "you are heroes and we all will do what we can to bring [the hostages] home... We have to continue to act and we won't stop until they are home."
In October 2023, Gal Gadot had announced: "I'm praying for everyone who has been affected by Hamas' terrorism and brutality. And I hope that the world remains steadfast in their support of the Israeli people."
The comedian and his family visited Israel to meet with survivors of the October 7 attacks and show their support. Cited by The times of Israel, he said he was "proud to be an ambassador for spreading the truth throughout the world."
The actress, scientist, and TV show host has made her support for Israel very clear on the social media platform X. She is also worried about the fact that not everyone agrees with her and the Israeli policy.
"My heart feels fear because of the anti-Semitism moving through this world with no end in sight," she tweeted. "My heart feels rage for the lack of unanimous global support for a swift return of the hostages taken by Hamas, the terrorist organization terrorizing Israelis and Palestinians alike."
Amy Schumer has become one of the most staunchly vocal celebrities in support of Israel. She used her Instagram account as a platform for her statements. "Hamas don’t want end to the occupation. They want to eradicate Israel," she wrote, for example.
The actress visited Israel and even went to the Gaza border. It was her first time there. She was cited by Ynetnews as saying: "I wish the whole world could be here to see it in person because nothing can transmit the magnitude of what happened here. But I will do my best to share my experience with everybody, that's why I'm here."
Culture Club singer Boy George showed his support for Israel posting on his X account, "When you hurt women, children, and the elderly your cause is doomed. I stand with Israel."
Kiss star Gene Simmons commented on the discussion as to whether Israel should be allowed to participate in the Eurovision Song Contest. "Those advocating to exclude an Israeli singer from Eurovision don't move the needle towards peace, but only further divide the world."
In the photo, Simmons attends the 'Friends Of The Israel Defense Forces Western Region Gala' in 2015.
Helen Mirren also addressed the Eurovision Song Contest controversy. "We have been shocked and disappointed to see some members of the entertainment community calling for Israel to be banished from the Contest for responding to the greatest massacre of Jews since the Holocaust."
A few days after the Hamas attack, Madonna wrote about it on Instagram: "What is Happening in Israel is Devastating... Watching all of these families and especially children being herded, assaulted and murdered in the streets is Heartbreaking. Imagine if this was happening to you?? It's Unfathomable."
Sharing videos of the terrorist attack, Madonna continued: "Conflicts can never be resolved with violence.... We live in a World Ravaged by Hate." She ended the message with: "Let us all Pray. For Israel." As she added pictures of Israeli flags to her post, most followers concluded that she was choosing the side of Israel.
The Oscar-winning actress showed her support for Israel on social media but made an awkward mistake. She posted a photo of a child running under a sky filled with missiles, commenting: "Terror from the skies" and adding an Israeli flag. However, the photo was of a Palestinian child and her post backfired.
Jamie Lee Curtis was also one of the Hollywood celebrities who signed an open letter in support of Israel. Released by the nonprofit 'Creative Community for Peace,' the letter gathered 700 signatures.
"The nightmare that Israelis have feared for decades became a reality as Hamas terrorists infiltrated Israeli cities and towns," the letter states. It was signed, among others, by Sharon Osbourne (image), Chris Pine, Zachery Levi, and Amy Schumer.
"There is no justification or rationalization for Hamas’ actions," the letter continues. "These are barbaric acts of terrorism that must be called out by everyone. They are a terrorist organization whose leaders call for the murder of Jews everywhere."
Liev Schreiber was one of the celebrities who signed the letter.
Among the 700 signers of the open letter in support of Israel, there were vocal advocates like Jerry Seinfeld, Mayim Bialik, and Jamie Lee Curtis, but also a large number of Hollywood stars who haven't said anything about the conflict beyond their signature under that letter.
Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson has taken a more neutral stance. He focuses on the loss of lives on both sides of the conflict. "The growing loss of innocent Israeli and Palestinian lives is heart-wrenching as this war escalates to immense proportions," he wrote on social media.
Johnson also emphasized that the conflict was too complicated for him to judge. "I don't pretend to know everything about the complex conflict in the Middle East. It commands deep understanding, context, and nuance."
Bono, a singer very committed to human rights worldwide, said during a U2 concert in Las Vegas in October 2023: "In the light of what's happened in Israel and Gaza, a song about nonviolence seems somewhat ridiculous, even laughable. But our prayers have always been for peace and for nonviolence."
It appeared he was taking a neutral stance as he asked his fans to sing 'Pride (In the Name of Love)' with him. However, the U2 frontman then added: "But our hearts and our anger, you know where that's pointed. So sing with us... and those beautiful kids at that music festival."
