Celebs who don't regularly wash their hair
It is becoming increasingly popular to adopt a greener lifestyle, forgoing products with ingredients that contain chemicals that are harmful to both the environment and one's own body. And many celebrities have led the way on their big public platforms, especially when it comes to shampoos and hair care.
Shailene Woodley has openly stated that she leads a much greener lifestyle than the average person and one of the measures of her "green life" is the number of times she washes her hair per month. Guess how many times?
Shailene has revealed that she washes her hair once a month! Revealing in an interview with, 'Into the Gloss,' in 2014 that "Hair-wise, I’m very lucky."
Shailene added: "My mom is 45 and she doesn’t have a single grey hair on her head. It’s the most beautiful, thick, strawberry blond. I basically have horse hair."
Shailene Woodley also acknowledged that "It’s so low-maintenance. The less I put in it, the better. I only shampoo it like once a month — the oilier, the better."
The 'Big Little Lies' actress further explained that her greasy hair helps to protect it, giving it the shine and consistency that she desires. The 'grease' is actually from the natural oils of the scalp itself, her body's way of hydrating and keeping her scalp healthy.
Most commercial shampoos strip these natural oils from your scalp, replacing them with synthetic oils and creating a vicious cycle whereby you must wash your scalp and hair more often.
Shailene's sustainable way of life isn't just limited to her scalp and hair but to her whole body. The actress makes her own beauty and hygiene products at home, with 100% natural products.
The actress explains in her 'Into the Gloss' interview that she even makes her own natural toothpaste with ingredients like clay, essential oils, and coconut.
Also, whenever she can, she avoids makeup. But if she has to wear it, she turns to brands that only use natural products. One of her favorite makeup brands is called '100% Pure.'
But going back to hair, Shailene Woodley isn't the only celebrity who rarely washes their hair. It's actually becoming quite common as more people are accepting that natural is better and that the body really might know how to take care of itself best of all.
Robert Pattinson, whose hair and hairstyles are envied around the world, confessed to 'Extra' that he goes up to six weeks without washing his hair. He also explained that he normally only washes it with water.
The singer Lorde, with quite enviable hair, is also a non-daily or weekly washer. She confessed to MTV that she washes her hair every two weeks or so.
Kim Kardashian has repeatedly confessed that she only washes her hair every 3-5 days.
Another popular trend these days is using non-traditional cleaning methods, like apple cider vinegar, instead of the oil-stripping shampoo that many now feel is bad for overall scalp and hair health.
It's really true; vinegar helps balance the pH of the scalp, limiting the ability of bacteria and fungi to grow. It also gives hair incredible strength and shine. Ewan McGregor is another celebrity who has confessed to eliminating shampoo from his shower.
To try it yourself, dilute apple cider vinegar with equal parts water or mix it with a teaspoon of olive or coconut oil. Of course, don't get it in your eyes; it's vinegar and won't do you any good. Let your hair soak for a while and rinse. No need to repeat this time.
