A bizarre attack

Donald Trump has said a lot of odd things about Kamala Harris but on August 23rd, he went on a really bizarre rant about Harris on his social media platform Truth Social.

The Weakest Presidential Candidate in History

“Kamala Harris is the Weakest Presidential Candidate in History on Crime,” the former president wrote before diving into some of his biggest lines of attack against Harris and her candidacy for president according to Raw Story.

“What gives her the right to run for President?”

“She’s allowed millions of people to pour through our Borders, many from prisons, mental institutions and, indeed, terrorists, coming in at levels never seen before. What gives her the right to run for President?” Trump continued.

Trump didn’t provide any proof for his accusations

The former president did not provide any proof for the claims he made online about Harris, but that didn’t stop him from continuing his attack, adding no one voted for her to be the Democratic presidential nominee.

“She got no votes to Biden’s 14 Million”

“She got no votes to Biden’s 14 Million. She failed in her previous attempt, was the first one out of 22 people to quit, never made it to Iowa, and now she’s a Presidential Candidate? This is a Threat to Democracy!” Trump concluded.

Is Trump upset over Harris’ growing momentum?

Trump’s furious message came amid a flurry of criticism from the former president and his campaign about the Vice President as they continue to look for ways to attack Harris and challenge her growing momentum.

An uptick in support for the vice President

The Hill’s Lauren Irwin noted in an August 24th article on Trump’s attack that Harris has seen an uptick in her momentum since taking over the top spot on the 2024 Democratic ticket following Biden’s exit from the race.

Breaking records and packing rallies

“Since joining the fray, the vice president has broken fundraising records, soared in the polls, packed rallies across the country. and secured key endorsements,” Irwin reported.

Trump has yet to find a line of attack

Despite Trump’s best efforts, he has yet to break the initial momentum Harris saw when she took over the ticket from Biden. In a separate post published on Truth Social before his attack, Trump tried to analyze why Harris was so popular now.

Analysis from the former president

The former president explained that Harris was attempting to distance herself from the Biden administration policies and deflect Biden’s failures solely onto him rather than take credit for her mistakes according to Irwin’s analysis of the post.

How Harris is painting her last four years

“Kamala and her ‘handlers’ are trying to make it sound like I am the Incumbent President, so that they can blame me for the failure of the past four years,” Trump wrote.

“Definitely Worst Vice President”

“No, it was their failure! It is one of the worst Presidencies in History, and she is definitely the Worst Vice President,” the former president continued.

Will questioning Harris’ right to run work?

Whether or not Trump’s new line of attack will work against Harris is still unknown. But it's not Trump’s first attempt at using his standard tactic of personal attacks against a political opponent like Harris to diminish their popularity and change the media narrative.

Personal attacks aren’t working

Trump has been attacking Harris since she became the presumptive 2024 Democratic presidential nominee. However, this time his personal attacks aren’t working and many of his Republican colleagues have taken note and warned him to change his strategy.

A warning from Lindsay Graham

On August 18th, Trump-loyalist and Carolina Senator Lindsey Graham warned the former president that he could lose the election in November if continued to focus on personal attacks over her policies.

“A nightmare for Harris"

“A nightmare for Harris is to defend her policy choices,” Graham explained on Meet the Press according to The Guardian. “President Trump can win this election… “If you have a policy debate, he wins. Donald Trump the provocateur, the showman, may not win this election.”
