(Mental) state of the union

The question about Joe Biden’s state of mind has been dominating US politics for some time now. Every new piece of information only raises more concern about how capable the current resident of the White House is.

Not a pretty picture for Uncle Joe

Washington, D.C.-based news outlet Axios revealed the instructions White House staffers must prepare for Biden in his public appearances, and it doesn’t look pretty for Uncle Joe.

The documents show very basic instructions in large font such as “WALK TO PODIUM” or “VIEW TO AUDIENCE” along with large pictures, displaying every small detail of what the US President must do or say.

'Instructions on how to enter and exit a room'

“It surprised me that a seasoned political pro like the president would need detailed verbal and visual instructions on how to enter and exit a room”, a Biden event staffer confessed to Axios.

Concealing bigger problems?

Looking at previous gaffes, in which Biden looks lost or disoriented as he walks away, such a measure seems to barely conceal bigger problems that the Commander-in-Chief is facing.

Just a standard procedure

White House staffers told Axios that such a type of highly precise documents are standard logistical briefing materials, regardless of who’s the President.

Teleprompter Joe

Not helping the matter is Joe Biden’s reliance on the teleprompter. The Washington Post writes that the US President’s dependency on written text on even the smallest interactions.

Getting back on track

According to The Washington Post, the teleprompter has been the primary aid for Biden, who seems to lose his train of thought now and then.

Reading the cues out loud

Even then, gaffes have continued to happen. The New York Post wrote back in April that Biden had appeared to accidentally read out loud the instructions off the teleprompter during a trade union conference.

Give them enough rope...

Meanwhile, AP News points out that Donald Trump has kept a low profile ever since the CNN debate, giving the spotlight to Joe Biden and the Democrats to tear each other apart in public.
