Making your bed is an art - and also a competition...

In this global, immense and strange world in which we live, there are contests of all kinds: from throwing olive pits, to eating hot dogs, to throwing a mobile phone as far as possible. Everything, absolutely everything, can be turned into a competition.

It is not surprising that, since we spend (or should spend) 8 hours a day in this zone of comfort, there should be a competition surrounding the world of slumber. Yes, friends, today we are going to talk about the bed-making competition.

Tourism is a key sector in the world's economy and hotel managers know that excellence is in the small details. Finding a perfectly made bed is the closest thing to visualising paradise for a guest.

For this reason, in recent years, countries such as the United States, China and Japan have been promoting bed-making competitions, demonstrating that what is a domestic chore for the majority is a noble art for a few.

And the interesting thing about these competitions is how absolutely hypnotic they are. The participants seem to dance around the bed while, at a speed impossible for ordinary humans, they leave everything perfectly in place.

In this competition, the judges look at every detail of the execution: from graceful movements, to perfect sheets, duvets and pillows, and of course, the speed of the entire action.

Obviously, it is much easier to make a bed with plenty of space around it, but there is also the pressure of the public and the fact that you must never lose the professional pose that characterises these competitions.

Las Vegas has already hosted more than one bed-making contest, with the best from all over the world. What's more, in parallel to the bed-making contest, there has also been a mopping or vacuuming contest.

Anything that involves gambling, competition and, of course, gambling money is always welcome in Las Vegas. However, this competition is becoming increasingly popular in all corners of the world.
