Trump Underwater: the President’s approval rating is suffering
Donald Trump has only been back in office for a few weeks but that hasn’t stopped him from making many transformative changes. Some of Trump's policies haven’t been a hit and his poll numbers reflect it.
For example, a CNN poll conducted by SSRS and published on February 20th revealed that Trump’s approval rating was already underwater one month into his new term. Only 47% of adults approved of Trump's new policies.
According to the polling, 52% of respondents reported they didn’t approve of the policies Trump had pursued since returning to office. Similar polling from Reuters and Ipsos also found Trump’s approval rating was underwater.
On February 19th, Reuters revealed that polling conducted on its behalf by Ipsos found Trump’s approval rating had slipped. Only 44% of respondents stated they approved of Trump while 51% disapproved. This was a major shift.
Trump’s approval rating only was down by one point from similar polling from Reuters and Ipsos conducted between January 24th and 26th. However, the number of those who disapproved of Trump has risen by a lot since taking office.
Polling conducted by Reuters and Ipsos just after Trump took office showed that 41% of Americans disapproved of Trump. The polling published on February 19th revealed that disapproval for Trump had risen to 51%.
The most recent polling by Reuters and Ipsos of Trump’s approval rating was published on February 25th. It found that Trump's approval numbers have remained steady. 44% of people still approve of Trump while 50% disapprove, which was down by one percent.
Interestingly, Reuters noted that Trump’s second-term numbers have remained higher than in his first term and higher than what President Joe Biden enjoyed during his four years in office. However, Trump’s approval is still underwater.
Other polling data tells a similar story. For example, Gallup published data on February 19th that showed Trump was enjoying a job approval rating of 45%, down from his 47% approval rating after the inauguration.
However, 51% of Americans didn’t approve of the job Trump has been doing, which also shows the President’s approval rating is underwater. However, recent polling by Harvard CAPS/ Harris found the reverse.
According to the poll, which was conducted between February 19th and the 20th, Trump enjoys an approval rating of 52% and a disapproval rating of 43%. The survey’s findings were featured by the White House on its website on February 24th.
The White House noted the poll revealed “the majority of the country backs President Donald J. Trump and his actions to bring much-needed reforms that are making America great again.” However, as other polls showed, that may not be the case.
