Peace wasn't built in a day

Australian network ABC writes that Trump’s inner circle has backtracked from the promise of achieving peace in Ukraine within 24 hours.

From 24 hours to 100 days

Now, the expert Trump has chosen to deal with the Ukrainian conflict has set 100 days after the inauguration as the new goal to end the war.

Trump's Ukraine man

Keith Kellog, a retired US general who has been designated as Trump’s peace envoy for Ukraine, told Fox News he would negotiate a “solid and sustainable” agreement between Moscow and Kyiv by May.

Moving goals

“I think they will come to a solvable solution in the near term. When I say near term, I would like to set a goal on a personal level, on a professional level”, Kellog said to Fox News. “I would say let's set it at 100 days and move back”.

Trump's promises

AP News reported back in July 2024 that Trump repeatedly stated that if he got reelected, he could end the conflict between Russia and Ukraine within a single day.

'I’ll have that done in 24 hours'

“They’re dying, Russians and Ukrainians. I want them to stop dying. And I’ll have that done — I’ll have that done in 24 hours”, Trump said at a CNN town hall talk in May 2023.

Appointment in Paris

Trump met with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in Paris after getting re-elected in November 2024, where, according to the French newspaper Le Monde, they spoke about the ongoing conflict between Kyiv and Moscow.

A trilateral meeting

“I had a good and productive trilateral meeting with President Donald Trump and President Emmanuel Macron at the Élysée Palace,” Zelensky wrote on social media afterward, as cited by Le Monde.

Looking for a just end for the war

“We all want this war to end as soon as possible and in a just way," the Ukrainian leader stressed.

What they say in the Kremlin

A group who also seems optimistic about Trump’s return to the White House? Quite a few higher-ups of the Russian government that anonymously spoke to the Russian independent online newspaper Meduza.

Where the compromise lies?

“The Russian president has his demands, the entire territory of four [of Ukraine’s] regions. Trump’s conditions are different. It’s unclear where the compromise lies,” said one source close to the Kremlin cited by Meduza.
