It all started in 2009

Between 2009 and 2020, the Dunphy, Pritchett and Delgado families became a household name. In fact, they became a relatable 'Modern Family' for millions of people.

250 episodes

One of the best sitcoms in the history of television gave us an incredible 11 seasons and 250 episodes. 11 seasons translated into time is quite a few years, especially for a cast of youngsters that the audience has seen grow up right before their very eyes.

What has become of them?

An evolving and growing storyline eventually came to a screeching halt in 2020, when the series ended. The question many people are asking is, what happened to the children's cast of 'Modern Family'? Let's find out.

Aubrey Anderson-Emmons as Lily Tucker-Pritchett

Aubrey joined the series in the third season, and she was only four years old at the time. Then, when the series ended, she was only 13 years old. Her entire childhood spent in front of the camera.

Television? TikTok!

Since the series ended, Aubrey Anderson-Emmons has not returned to the screen. But her fans can see her almost every day on the social media site where all 14-year-olds are nowadays: TikTok.

Just dance

The actress is constantly uploading videos of herself doing her own choreography on this social network. She has more than 750,000 followers.

Nolan Gould as Luke Dunphy

Nolan Gould was 11 years old when the series began. His character was not overly intelligent, so the problem for Gould was that many people were led to think that in real life the same was true. Nothing could be further from the truth.

Gifted

Nolan Gould started university at the age of 14, after leaving school at 13. How did he do it? With an IQ of 150, which puts him in line with Mensa, the group for the gifted.

Hitting the gym

These days, Nolan Gould is training. A lot. The actor has toned so much muscle that Marvel could sign him up tomorrow. In the meantime, he has also had time to take part in three episodes of the series 'What's up North', and has just finished shooting 'Camp', his next film.

Sarah Hyland as Haley Dunphy

Sarah Hyland was 18 when the series began and 29 when she shot her last scene. Those 11 years had not been easy for the actress, especially in terms of her health. The young woman suffers from endometriosis and renal dysplasia, illnesses that she had to make public in the face of many criticising her extreme thinness.

A total of 16 surgeries

One of Sarah Hyland's most serious operations was back in 2012, when she had to undergo surgery for a kidney transplant. Five years later, she had to repeat the operation, as the transplanted kidney, which her father had donated, was failing.

Restraining order

During the physical duress she was suffering, the actress also had to take out a restraining order against her then-partner Matt Prokop in 2014, after he threatened her and assaulted her dog.

Engaged!

On an emotional level, everything has changed for the better. In 2019, the actress got engaged to Wells Adam, a contestant on the reality show 'The Bachelorette.' The problem? They set the date for August 2020 and a pandemic denied them their wedding.

No wedding for the couple

"A couple, a pandemic, & a postponed wedding: A series. We were supposed to get married today. Instead... we took pictures and drank wine. I love you to Pluto & back," Sarah Hyland humorously commented on Instagram on 8 August 2020. In other words, they will probably spring a surprise wedding on their fans, Ariana Grande style.

... but happy and working

In terms of work, she is working on a fairytale drama pilot called Epic, and it is set to be as successful as the hit series, 'Once Upon a Time.' Deadline reports that Sarah Hyland will play a princess by the name of Rose, who is about to marry her Prince Charming.

Ariel Winter as Alex Dunphy

And if Sarah Hyland has had a hard time, Ariel Winter is no exception. The actress started filming 'Modern Family' when she was just 11 years old (just like Gould), so she was 22 when it ended. Half a lifetime with her TV family.

Bad Old Family

This TV family was much more like real family than her real-life family. Ariel Winter's mother took her to casting calls for commercials from the age of four but her relationship with her family came to an end when the actress reported her mother for physical and psychological abuse in 2012, appointing her older sister as her legal guardian. Three years later, at the age of 17, she emancipated herself from her parents.

Breast Reduction

At the same time, the actress decided to undergo surgery to reduce her breasts. The volume and weight was so great that it was causing severe damage to her back. The actress did not hide the operation, nor the scars it left behind from the media. Aside from the physical changes that saw her grow from girl to woman, she has also physically changed her own hair colour - on many occasions. Her preferred colour? Pink.

Renowned voice actress

Ariel Winter's career, since leaving the series, has not stopped. She has three films pending ('Pools', 'Don't Log Off' and 'Crimelands'). She has also found time to voice Kairi in the video game 'Kingdom Hearts: Melody of Memory'. And of course, she voiced Sofia in Princess Sofia for 109 episodes.

Happily together

Reportedly, she met Luke Benward while she was dating her previous co-star, Levi Meaden. Luke and Ariel were friends and started a relationship after her breakup. They also just finished filming "Don't Log Off" together. She loves gushing about her boyfriend on social media who, although not as popular as his lady, is a successful actor, director and producer.

Rico Rodríguez as Manny Delgado

Yet another actor who was born in 1998 joined the series at the age of 11. Rico Rodriguez is, perhaps, the show's cast member who worked the most during the 11 seasons of 'Modern Family'.

Young at work

He worked hard during 'Modern Family' and some of the other series in which he has appeared in at the time are 'The Muppets', 'Good Luck, Charlie' and 'Austin and Ally'. In fact, he even had time to publish his memoirs 'Reel Life Lessons... So Far', back in 2012, at the age of 14. We imagine (and hope) there will be a sequel.

Young in business

Now, since the end of the series, Rico Rodríguez has not been seen again on the screen. Yes, there has been a worldwide pandemic, but that is not the only reason. In 2019, Rico and his sister Raini set up a production company. "We're hoping write our own stuff and produce and direct," he said on social media.
