If you had all the money in the world, where would you choose to live? Some world's richest people have chosen to set up shop on the coasts of North America while others have picked the serenity of Europe. But how do we know this?

A report from Henley & Partners

A 2022 report by Henley & Partners listed 20 cities that the global 1% call home, and you might be surprised by some of the cities that made it onto the list.

 

 

20. Paris (France)

The City of Light, known for its culture and luxury, is home to only 88,600 millionaires, including 15 billionaires. If that sounds like a big number, it's just the beginning!

19. Geneva (Switzerland)

Switzerland has a long-standing association with banking, so it is no surprise that Geneva houses over 90,000 residents that own more than a million US dollars and 16 bona fide billionaires.

18. Dallas-Forth Worth (USA)

They don't call oil 'Texas tea' for nothing and the DFW area is a good example of that! 16 billionaires live in Dallas, along with over 90,000 millionaires.

17. Melbourne (Australia)

Located on Australia's southeastern coast, this booming metropolis is home to over 97,000 millionaires and 12 billionaires.

16. Seoul (South Korea)

South Korea's capital is home to worldwide companies such as Samsung and Kia. Plus, it's where over 100,000 millionaires (and 25 billionaires!) enjoy the good life.

15. Zurich (Switzerland)

Switzerland manages to grab another spot on the list with the city of Zurich, home to over 105,000 millionaires and 12 billionaires.

14. Toronto (Canada)

Canada's biggest city lands on the 14th spot on the list with 17 billionaires and over 116,000 residents with over one million US dollars in their bank accounts.

13. Frankfurt (Germany)

Germany's financial capital is number 13 on the ranking with 117,400 millionaires, including 14 billionaires.

12. Hong Kong (China)

China's special administrative region has been a historic commerce hub, which still continues to this day. The island houses over 125,000 millionaires, out of which 28 have surpassed the billion-dollar benchmark.

11. Sydney (Australia)

Australia manages to get a second spot on the list with Sydney, the Southern Hemisphere metropolis where 16 billionaires and about 129,500 millionaires call home.

10. Shanghai (China)

China's financial hub gets into the top ten, housing 42 billionaires and overall 132,600 millionaires!

9. Beijing (China)

Shanghai is only surpassed by China's capital, where 131,500 millionaires, including 44 billionaires.

8. Houston (USA)

Houston manages to land the eighth spot on the list, housing over 132,600 millionaires and 25 billionaires.

7. Chicago (USA)

Chicago might be known as America's Second City but is seventh on this list with 28 billionaires and overall above 160,100 millionaires.

6. Los Angeles (USA)

LA gets America another spot in the top ten, being the city where over 192,000 millionaires, and 34 billionaires, live, work and play.

5. Singapore (Singapore)

The city-state of Singapore is home to a little less than 250,000 millionaires, which includes 26 billionaires.

4. London (UK)

The British capital is number one in Europe and overall third on the list with 272,400 residents who have more than one million US dollars in the bank, including 38 billionaires.

3. San Francisco (USA)

San Francisco grabs a third spot for California and enters the top 3, with 62 billionaires and overall 276,400 millionaires living in the Bay Area.

2. Tokyo (Japan)

Japan gets the silver as the top Asian metropolis, being home to almost 305,000 millionaires, including 12 billionaires.

1. New York City (USA)

Unsurprisingly, The Big Apple leads the list, being home to over 345,000 people with over one million US dollars in their bank accounts, including 56 billionaires!
