Lavish creativity for Qatar 2022

From a stadium built out of shipping containers to one that reinterprets the traditional Arab 'jaima', the stadiums planned for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar are fascinating in both sporting and architectural terms.

Lusail Stadium

You can find a golden, futuristic stadium 20 kilometres (12.4 miles) from Doha in the city of Lusail. An absolutely iconic building with capacity for 80,000 people.

Al Bayt Stadium

In the city of Jor, this stadium's shape pays homage to the Bedouin tents of the deserts. A blend of tradition and avant-garde.

974 Stadium

The majority of this stadium is built using cargo containers used for ship transport. A marvel of creativity and engineering located in the port area of Doha. The idea is that it can be transformed and even moved elsewhere when the World Cup is over.

Al Janoub Stadium

In the city of Al Wakrah, located on the southern coast of Qatar, this stadium hosts up to 40 football matches during the 2022 World Cup. It is a pre-existing stadium that has been redesigned, including the installation of a spectacular, retractable roof.

Al Thumama Stadium

It almost looks like a hovering spaceship that has landed over the grounds of Qatar. This magnificent stadium has a capacity of 40,000 people.

Al Bayan Stadium

On the outskirts of Doha, this will be the first stadium in Qatar to host a World Cup match. Both the opening match and the final of the 2022 World Cup take place here. The design has recently been modified to adapt to Qatar's hot and humid conditions during the summer.

Education City Stadium

You can find this stadium in the city of Al Rayyan: a truly majestic and mysterious place. 40,000 people can fit in this arena.

Khalifa International Stadium

A beautifully designed stadium with a movable roof, this arena can be found in Al Rayyan, another of Qatar's main World Cup venues.

Like many other stadiums, the Khalifa International Stadium truly shines when night falls and the lights are switched on.
