Friday 14 June marks the start of Euro 2024, with a game between hosts Germany and Scotland. Although the Germans are not considered the favourites, we believe they will take the title in front of their home crowd. Here's why.

Knockout football

ESPN reports the three-time European Championship winners haven't won a knockout game in eight years, but this year, on their home patch, fortunes may change.

Home advantage

When every game is at home in front of a ruckus German crowd, it's bound to provide an extra incentive for the German players to perform and give them more energy in each match.

History repeating itself?

The Bundesliga website reports that Germany will get rid of their knockout football woes of the past, with history suggesting the home nation always makes it to the latter rounds.

Other host nations

Portugal (2004), France (2016), and England (2021) were all host nations in recent years who made it to the final of their home competition. Spain (1964), Italy (1968), and France (1984) all won on their home patch.

Musiala and Wirtz

The German fans have two of the most exciting young players in the world heading into the European Championships: Jamal Musiala (21) and Florian Wirtz (21).

Creative geniuses

According to Transfermarkt, Wirtz has scored 11 goals and provided 11 assists in the Bundesliga this season, while Musiala has scored 10 goals and provided six assists in 24 Bundesliga games. Both are in form and will be an asset to Germany this summer.

Team of winners

To surround the creative geniuses of Wirtz and Musiala, the Germans have a team of winners on the biggest stage, and that could prove crucial in the latter rounds of the tournament.

World Cup winners

Manuel Neuer, Toni Kroos, and Thomas Muller won the 2014 World Cup with Germany and have all featured over 100 times for the German national team.

Know-how

Joshua Kimmich, Antonio Rudiger, Kai Havertz, Ilkay Gundogan, and Marc-Andre ter Stegen have won the UEFA Champions League. The Bundesliga website reports there are 63 league winners' medals in the German squad.

German club football is thriving

The German national team go into this European Championships after the Bundesliga and Bayer Leverkusen have made international headlines for becoming the first team in German history to finish unbeaten in the league.

Leverkusen and Stuttgart

Of that squad, Wirtz, Jonathan Tah, and Robert Andrich will play for Germany at the Euros. VfB Stuttgart, who finished second and above Bayern Munich, have been rewarded with five players included in the national team.

Positive club seasons

Borussia Dortmund made it into the final of the Champions League and succumbed to Real Madrid's Toni Kroos and Antonio Rudiger in the final. The majority of the German squad is coming into the tournament off the back of a positive club year.

Julian Nagelsmann

At 36, Germany has the most exciting young manager in world football, Julian Nagelsmann, who has already won the Bundesliga with Bayern Munich. The German coach is young and proved he can win with a squad full of elite players.

Group A

Germany will face Scotland, Hungary, and Switzerland in Group A of the European Championships and will be expected to top that group. If they win Group A, they will face second place from England, Serbia, Slovenia, and Denmark's group.

The perfect mix

On their home soil, with a tenacious manager and a squad full of winners and quality, the Germans have to fancy themselves as favorites for the 2024 European Championships.
