In a sporting world dominated by one M. Jordan in the last 40 years, a new M. Jordan has arrived on the golf scene, looking to dominate as Michael did in the NBA.

Matt Jordan

Matt Jordan arrived at the Open Championship as an unknown at the beginning of last week and had the honor of taking the first tee shot to get the tournament underway.

Dreams

What would transpire in the four days following for the local lad to Royal Liverpool wouldn't be in his wildest dreams, as he stole the show for his exceptional performance.

Emotional one

The story for Jordan this week was always going to be emotional, the local lad at his local course in a major championship, setting the scene for fairytales.

Advantage

Knowing the course after playing there since he was a kid was always going to have its advantages, reading the greens and landing spots on each hole.

Tournament pressure

But knowing the course as well as he did could have all gone out the window when the grandstands went up, the best players in the world are playing, and the rain comes falling down.

The nerves

Jordan steadied the nerves with a two-under score of 69 in the opening round and wavered through the second round with one-over 72, making the cut and his dreams even more of a reality.

Top 10

MJ shot another 69 in the third round and finished his final round with a birdie on the 18th, capping off a magical weekend and a first top-ten finish in a major.

Back again

His top-ten finish has also secured him automatic qualification for next year's Open Championship, held at Royal Troon in Scotland.

'Perfect finish'

According to golf.com, Jordan said: It was just the perfect finish to what has been the most unbelievable week. I just wanted to knock it in for everyone who supported me."

European Tour

Jordan currently competes on the DP World Tour and has strong finishes in his last few events, coming 15th in the British Masters, leading after the first round, shooting a 63.

Next event

MJ will have to bring himself down a few pegs after his performance in the Open, focusing on his next tournament, the ISPS Handa World Invitational in Northern Ireland.

Course back to normal

The golf world will show up and leave a course in a hurry, explaining how weird it will be to play at Royal Liverpool again with no fans and grandstands.

Tee time

This week he has a tee time at Royal Liverpool alongside his girlfriend's father and her sister's fiancé. The idea of normality made Jordan reminisce about his past week.

'Weird it's going to be'

Speaking after his final round, Jordan said: "How weird it's going to be just going around just as a practice because I'm probably going to remember everything I've done beforehand."

Kicking on

The Jordan name is the largest in sports, and Matt Jordan will hope to replicate similar success in the golf world and push on from his first top 10 major finish.
