Manchester United fall short in the Europa Leauge to a rowdy Sevilla FC

The 'Red Devils' are out

Manchester United was dropped out of the Europa League quarter-finals following a dreadful second-leg performance at the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan, Sevilla.

Comeback season

The 'Red Devils' have made a remarkable comeback this season and now stand comfortably in fourth place in the Premier League.

Sevilla dominated

They had strong aspirations for the Europa League but were denied a pass to the semi-finals after Sevilla dominated the second leg by 3-0.

First leg

During the first leg match, Manchester United and Sevilla drew 2-2 in a hectic yet thrilling match. Manchester United scored first with two great plays, finishing with two goals from Mario Sabitzer. Sevilla would later enjoy two late own goals that would level the scoreboard.

Experimenting with changes

Manchester United came into the second leg with a different approach and it cost them dearly. United was well below their best, creating very few chances forward. The 'Red Devils' were overrun in the midfield and would struggle to build up momentum.

Hero En-Nesyri

Sevilla was gifted the lead in the first ten minutes of the game after Youssef En-Nesyri snatched the ball from Harry Maguire, in an awful error outside the box. The Spanish team would double their advantage after half-time with a quality header into the top left corner.

David de Gea flop

David de Gea would flop once again in a loose ball outside the box, where United's keeper slipped and gave the ball away to En-Nesyri who scored the third and final goal, sending Sevilla to semis.

Missing piece

Manchester United was missing Bruno Fernandez due to a suspension. The Portugues midfielder is a key player in the squad and an essential pillar for Ten Hag's project. The 'Red Devils' seemed to wander around aimlessly without him on the pitch.

Silver lining

Sevilla conquered the pitch and won a very important game against all odds. Due to good fortune and capitalizing on their rivals' mistakes, Sevilla will face Juventus (May 18th) to fight for a one-way ticket to the final!

On to semifinals

Sevilla may sit 13th in La Liga and have spent the majority of a poor season battling relegation, but they look reinvigorated under new coach Jose Luis Mendilibar. Sevilla is gambling all their chips on the Europa League, one of their favorite competitions.
