Liverpool and Chelsea go head-to-head for £40m Championship star

Now that the Premier League season is done and dusted, clubs in England and abroad are looking to strengthen their squads for the forthcoming campaign. Such is the case with Arne Slot's Liverpool and Chelsea.

According to The Sun, both clubs are targeting 22-year-old Leeds star Crysencio Summerville, one of the 'The Whites' and the Championship's best players this season.

Liverpool and Chelsea are leading the race for Summerville, who is also being courted by West Ham, Fulham and Bournemouth. According to the Sun, the Dutchman would have to cost "£35-40million" (€41.1-47m/$44.6-51m).

Leeds and Summerville missed out on promotion to the Premier League by finishing third in the Championship and losing the play-off final to Southampton (0-1). This could have huge consequences for the Yorkshire club, "having spent big during their last season in the Premier League," per The Sun.

According to the tabloid, Leeds "owe £189.7million in transfer instalments", (€222.75/$241.88m) which could urge 'The Whites' to sell Summerville this summer.

Summerville has been one of Leeds' key players this season, scoring 21 goals and providing 10 assists in all competitions, according to Transfermarkt, attracting interest from Premier League clubs and abroad.

However, Summerville seems set to stay in the UK, as "a Premier League move is considered most likely," per The Sun. With five clubs interested, the winger has plenty of options for next season.

Despite his good performances, Summerville will not be taking part in the Euros with the Netherlands. However, he has already played for the Dutch U21s.

Summerville is still under contract until 2026 with Leeds, for whom he has already made 89 appearances (25 goals, 12 assists).
