A Spanish domestic abuse charity has called for Getafe CF to axe their new signing, Mason Greenwood, from the squad just under a week after joining.

Over a year out

The 21-year-old controversially returns to the game after over a year out due to being arrested on multiple charges, including serious sexual assault.

Revive his career

However, since the Crown Prosecution Service dropped charges in February this year, Greenwood has been able to revive his football career.

Ana Bella Foundation

As expected, his move to Getafe in La Liga has been hit with major backlash, with Ana Bella Estévez, the founder of the Ana Bella Foundation, seeking the club overturns the decision to sign the player.

‘Overturn their decision’

According to dailymail.co.uk, Ana Bella Estévez said: "Getafe executives should never have hired Mason Greenwood and should immediately overturn their decision."

‘Violence against women’

"If you're a public-facing organization like Getafe, there is no excuse to take a neutral stance on violence against women — you must take moral responsibility."

Jose Bordalas

Greenwood's new manager, Jose Bordalas, has come out to defend the striker, making it clear he wants to focus on football and not his personal life.

‘We can only talk about football’

According to bbc.co.uk, Bordalas said: "Obviously we can only talk about football, about other issues, I think, that the people and the relevant systems did what they had to do, and everybody knows how it ended - without a condemnatory sentence."

'Recover his best level'

"He's a footballer of the highest level who comes to Getafe with enormous hope. We are going to help him to recover his best level."

Loan move

Manchester United hope his loan move to the La Liga club 'enables Greenwood to begin to rebuild his career away from Manchester United.'

Six month investigation

The English club completed a six-month investigation on Greenwood and his charges in August and believe the striker didn't commit an offense.

Suspended in 2022

Greenwood was suspended by the club in January 2022 after shocking videos of him allegedly assaulting his girlfriend came to light.

Extremely fortunate

The former England striker is extremely fortunate to start his football career again, with many fans believing his alleged actions should have harsher consequences.

Rachel Riley

TV personality and avid Manchester United supporter Rachel Riley threatened to 'never watch United again' if Greenwood steps on a football pitch.

Game next week

Despite the obvious backlash, Greenwood is expected to lace up his boots again in La Liga, with Getafe next playing Osasuna at home on the 17th of September.

Should he be allowed to return?

Should Mason Greenwood be allowed to return, or should he have been punished more harshly for his actions?
