England fast bowler Stuart Broad joins the elusive 600 Test wickets club

On the opening day of the Ashes fourth Test, England fast bowler Stuard Broad joined the illusive 600 Test wickets club.

Travis Head became the 600^th victim for Broad, hitting Broad's delivery right into Joe Root's hands, helping him become the fifth player to hit the impressive milestone.

Broad becomes the second England player to reach the 600-wicket milestone, joining best friend and bowling partner James Anderson.

His 600th wicket was also his 149^th against Australia, breaking Ian Botham's England record of 148. Shane Warne remains the Ashes holder with 195 wickets.

According to the BBC, Broad said: "Never in my dreams did I think that (600 wickets) would be a thing. Some players feel they have achieved what they wanted to after getting a Test cap, and I've been fortunate enough to create memories."

After achieving such an incredible feat, who are the players to have reached 600 Test wickets?

Broad became the second fast bowler to reach 600 wickets on the opening day of the fourth Test of the Ashes, taking Usman Khawaja for 599 and Travis Head for 600.

Broad made his Test debut in 2007 and has gone on to make 638 caps for England. His best bowling performance came against Australia, getting eight wickets for just 15 runs.

Anil Kumble became the first Indian bowler to reach the 600-wicket landmark in January 2008, dismissing Australia's Andrew Symonds in a Perth Test match.

The player nicknamed 'Jumbo the Great' had some of the most incredible performances in his time with India, including dismissing all ten batsmen in a Test match against Pakistan in 1999.

England veteran James Anderson became the first fast bowler to reach the 600-wicket mark, dismissing Pakistan captain Azhar Ali in 2020.

Anderson is currently on 689 Test wickets and has claimed more five-wicket hauls than any other bowler at the top level, producing 32.

The great Shane Warne was one of the most incredible spin bowlers in the sport, holding the record for most Ashes wickets (195).

Warne became only the second player in Test cricket history to reach 700 wickets, dismissing Andrew Strauss in the fourth Ashes Test in 2006 on Boxing Day. Warne finished that day, 5/37.

Muralitharan is widely regarded as the most successful and one of the greatest bowlers in the history of the sport, being the only player to reach 800 Test Wickets.

The Sri Lankan right arm off break bowler is a member of the ICC Cricket Hall of Fame and averaged an astounding six wickets per Test match.
