Chris Snow, Calgary Flames assistant general manager, dies of ALS aged 42

Chris Snow, 42, has passed away from complications with ALS, a disease he has battled since 2019.

Snow was diagnosed four years ago but refused to give up, continuing to work for the NHL franchise, serving as their assistant general manager.

Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, or ALS is a motor neuron disease that affects nerve cells and causes loss of muscle control over time.  Per Boston.com, Snow's father, uncle and two cousins have all passed away from ALS, with a specific mutation causing it to occur regularly in the family.

Chris’ wife, Kelsie, posted a photo of the two of them and their two children saying, “Today we hugged Chris for the last time and said goodbye”

Kelsie Snow’s post on X continued, “he went to give four people the gift of life by donating his kidneys, liver and lungs. We are deeply broken and deeply proud. In life and in death, Chris never stopped giving.”

Last week Snow suffered a cardiac arrest that led to him going unresponsive. He was revived but unfortunately, he had suffered a “catastrophic brain injury,” per Kelsie Snow.

Kelsie would continue by saying, “His doctors do not expect him to wake up from this. My chest feels cracked open and hollowed out. Chris is the most beautiful, brilliant person I'll ever know, and doing life without him feels untenable. Hug your people.”

The Calgary Flames honored Snow before their preseason game on Friday, 29th September, showing the respect the team had for their former assistant GM.
