At the end of the 2024 WNBA season, the Indiana Fever parted ways with head coach Christie Sides, opening the door for a new mentor for Caitlin Clark.

Taking measures

The 2025 WNBA season is still far away, but Clark and the Fever have already taken measures to ensure their success next campaign.

Ready to go

The Fever made the playoffs for the first time since 2016 last season and wasted no time in firing their head coach with their sights set on winning it all in the WNBA.

Stephanie White

Following her firing by the Connecticut Sun, Stephanie White was promptly hired by the Fever to take them back to the glory days. This is now White's third stint as a member of the Fever.

Her stints

White played for the Indiana Fever for four seasons during his playing career, and served as an assistant coach and head coach between 2011 and 2016.

A winner

During her time as the assistant coach, White helped the Fever win their one and only WNBA Championship in 2012 and led the team to two WNBA Finals as head coach.

Coaching Clark

Despite her previous success with the franchise, White's third stint in Indiana is even more exciting as she gets to coach WNBA phenomenon Caitlin Clark.

Wasting no time

White wasted no time contacting the WNBA's most famous player, telling ESPN's Malika Andrews, "Yes, I spoke with Caitlin last night."

Excitement

In the interview on NBA Today, White expressed his excitement at the prospect of coaching Clark next season. She said she had watched Clark since her early days in high school.

"Exciting time for me"

According to the Express, White said: "I've been watching Caitlin play since she was an eighth grader when I was coaching at the college [level] and covering her games. [It's] just an exciting time for me. [I' m] very excited to be working with her and this young team."

"A student of the game"

"She's just a student of the game. She loves the game of basketball. She has been so great in how she has handled all of the attention. She wants to play; she just wants to win, and I'm looking forward to coaching players like that in this young team and taking our next steps."

Leading the way

White realizes that Clark is going to be the driving force of this team, not just with her play, but her attitude. She said on the Coaching U podcast in December 2024, "Caitlin has adjusted unbelievably quick to this league, and now it's not only about becoming a great player, but a great leader to this team."

The main goal

White went on to say that the objective is not just to win one title; it's to win multiple championships.

Wearing 22

Clark and White already have one thing they can resonate over with the Indiana Fever: they have both donned the number 22 jersey for the Fever in the WNBA.

Clark wore it better

The new Fever head coach graciously accepted that Clark has worn the 22 jersey better than her after she won the WNBA Rookie of the Year award and broke numerous records in her maiden campaign.

Last season

White led the Connecticut Sun to the WNBA Playoff semi-finals last season, beating the Indiana Fever in the first round to progress.
