Once again, Arsenal failed to win the Premier League, just two points behind champions Manchester City. One of the Gunners' main problems is the lack of a top striker capable of pushing the Londoners forward at decisive moments. Arsenal are now looking to sign one of this season's Serie A sensations.

Joshua Zirkzee

According to Tuttosport, Arsenal are interested in Bologna's Joshua Zirkzee, with Mikel Arteta preparing an official bid for the Dutch striker.

11 goals

Zirkzee, 23, has impressed this season, scoring 11 goals and providing five assists in Serie A, according to Transfermarkt, to lead Bologna to a Champions League ticket.

Bayern Munich

Zirkzee began his professional career with German club Bayern Munich, who had signed him from Feyenoord's youth ranks.

RSC Anderlecht

After a short loan spell at Parma, Bayern sent Zirkzee to RSC Anderlecht in Belgium. It was in the Belgian capital that he came into his own, with 18 goals and 13 assists in 47 appearances (Transfermarkt).

Contract until 2026

Anderlecht wanted to keep Zirkzee, but were beaten by Bologna, who signed him until mid-2026.

€40m release clause

According to Sky reporter Patrick Berger, Zirkzee has a €40m (£34m/$43.5m) release clause in his contract, with Bayern having a "have a 50% sell-on clause, negotiated by Hasan Salihamidzic." This means that Bayern would earn €20 (£317m/$21.7m) million if Bologna sold Zirkzee in the summer transfer market, Bavarian Football Works explains.

Fierce competition

However, Arsenal face fierce competition, with Italian giants AC Milan and Juventus also interested in the striker.
