The five Formula One drivers with the most race wins in history
Formula One is the most elite level of motor racing, with only the best of the best getting one of the 20 seats available in any given season.
Winning one race against the 20 best drivers is a tall order in itself, and these five have done it more than anyone, making them the best drivers in history.
Alain Prost is the most successful French driver in Formula One history, winning 51 races between 1980 and 1993.

Prost was dominant in the late 80s and early 90s, picking up four Formula One Drivers' Championships. After his career, he ran his own team in F1 called 'Prost Grand Prix' between 1997 and 2001.
Recently retired Sebastian Vettel is fourth in total race victories in Formula One history, having an illustrious career for some of F1's most historic teams.
In his career, Vettel won four World Championships between 2010 and 2013, driving for the likes of Red Bull and Ferrari in his 15-year career.
Between 2021 and 2023, Red Bull driver Max Verstappen had the most dominating spell in Formula One history, winning three consecutive world titles and re-writing the record book for the number of races won.
According to the Formula One website, Verstappen won ten races in 2021, 15 races in 2022, and an incredible 19 races in 2023. This season, the Dutchman continues to sit at the summit of Formula One, winning seven of the 14 races in 2024.

German great Michael Schumacher won a staggering 91 Formula One races in his career, putting him second on the all-time wins list.
Schumacher has won a record-equalling seven world championships with Lewis Hamilton, winning five consecutively between 2000 and 2004 as he destroyed the sport with Ferrari.
The most successful driver in Formula One history is Mercedes driver Lewis Hamilton, who recently added to his record-setting number of wins at the British and Belgium Grand Prix.
