OGC Nice player Alexis Beka Beka safe after threatening to jump from viaduct

A shocking situation unfolded in the morning of Friday, September 29 as OGC Nice player Alexis Beka Beka stood alone on the edge of a viaduct and threatened to jump, BFM TV reported.

The 22-year-old intended to jump from the Magnan viaduct on the A8 motorway on Friday morning before firefighters, police and gendarmes arrived on site.

Traffic was been stopped as the player overlooked a 110 meter high void. His club OGC Nice interrupted all its press activities and hired a psychologist to manage the situation. Their manager Eric Roy, giving a press conference on Friday ahead of their game: ‘I would like to give, as well as the entire club, my support to Nice with regard to the current events. I am hoping that it ends as well as possible. My heart goes out to them," Roy is reported as saying by Punch.

This situation was apparently sparked by a breakdown of a romantic relationship.  Emergency services worked quickly to dissuade the young player from jumping.

Aged 22, Alexis Beka Beka arrived at OGC Nice in 2022 from Lokomotiv Moscow for 12 million euros.

Beka Beka is a midfielder and made an impression during his time at Caen, in Ligue 2, where he revealed himself in 2019 at the age of 18.

Last season, the Frenchman only played 14 Ligue 1 matches, including seven as a starter at OGC Nice.

This season, Beka Beka has still not played a single minute in the Aiglons jersey in Ligue 1 but scored a goal in preparation on September 22 against Montpellier.

He notably played in the Olympic Games with the France team in 2021, playing three matches.

Reports in France suggested he was safeky extracted from the viaduct around 2 pm, and was put into the immediate care of a psychologist. We wish Beka Beka all the best with his recovery.
