Miss Universe 2023, Sheynnis Palacios, exiled from Nicaragua

Winning the Miss Universe crown has not just brought Sheynnis Palacios happiness but also many problems in her native country, Nicaragua. She has now been exiled indefinitely from the country.

Anne Jakrajutatip, owner of the Miss Universe franchise, revealed on her social networks that Sheynnis and her family have left their country.

In the Instagram post, Jakrajutatip highlighted Sheynnis' strength and dedication "to take care of your mother and the entire family who are now outside the homeland."

However, later she edited her post and left only the following message: "You are brave, strong, and intelligent, but at the same time very humble and hardworking to take care of your mother and the whole family."

The Miss Universe of 2023 had already been seen in New York, where she resides in the company of her grandmother and her brother, the paper 'Confidencial' reported.

The Nicaraguan newspaper La Prensa confirmed that Palacios' family left the country and is in the United States for humanitarian parole. This is a temporary migration status granted to people who urgently need to enter the country for humanitarian reasons. Neither Miss Universe nor her family have confirmed this information.

Sheynnis, who participated as Miss Nicaragua, was crowned Miss Universe 2023 on November 18 at a gala held in El Salvador.

However, Miss Universe has not returned to her country because she does not agree with the regime of Daniel Ortega. After the event in which Sheynnis won the crown, he banished the now-former director of the franchise in Nicaragua, Karen Celebertti, along with her husband and children.

Jakrajutatip took advantage of Mother's Day to praise Celebertti. She is now the director of Talent Development for Miss Universe while living outside Nicaragua and facing charges of conspiracy and treason there.

Although she has not been able to return to her country, Sheynnis has been a source of pride for the people of Nicaragua. The government of Daniel Ortega has exiled her indefinitely, but so far, she has led her reign without involving political issues.

Despite everything, Sheynnis' triumph was historic. It was the first crown Nicaragua ever won in the Miss Universe pageant.

As Telemundo notes, no one has purchased the Miss Nicaragua franchise and it is not expected that the Miss Universe pageant will be held in that country this year.

For its part, the Ortega government has announced that they are organizing their own contest, called 'Queens of Nicaragua'.

Apart from being a beauty queen, Sheynnis has recently graduated with a degree in Communication. Before becoming Miss Universe, she worked as a TV host in her country.

Sheynnis was crowned Miss Nicaragua 2023 in August. Since then, she worked hard to win the crown. And even though she has not been able to return, her love for Nicaragua is the same as ever.

"(Nicaragua) is the place where I was born and for which I feel proud," the young woman said in an interview with Telemundo San Francisco.
