Marc Pilcher, 53, Emmy winner for 'Bridgerton', dies of COVID-19
He was 53 years old, "twice vaccinated and without health problems," his representative announced. Despite all this, the coronavirus cost Marc Pilcher his life.
The stylist and makeup artist of 'Bridgerton' was a key person in the success of Netflix's costume drama. He even won an Emmy for his work. Now, Pilcher has unexpectedly lost his life.
Curtis Brown, his press officer, confirmed in 'Variety' that Marc Pilcher had completed his vaccination schedule and had "no underlying health problems."
Marc Pilcher lived in the United Kingdom. He had recently travelled to the United States, in order to attend the Emmy gala on September 20. It was there that he won an Emmy for 'Outstanding Period and/or Character Hairstyling' on the 'Bridgerton' set.
As the travel protocol mandates, the stylist and makeup artist had undergone several routine tests to determine if he was infected with the virus. As Variety reports, these tests were all negative.
Upon his return to the United Kingdom, Marc Pilcher got infected with COVID-19. He had a short sick bed and passed away on October 3.
Nicola Coughlan, who plays Penelope in 'Bridgerton', was one of the first actors to say goodbye to Marc Pilcher.
"So heartbroken," she wrote on Instagram. "It’s a tragedy that he’s been taken so young when he had so much yet to do."
The death of Marc Pilcher is very hard on his team. Nicola Coughlan addressed the stylist's "wonderful team" in the 'Bridgerton' production: "He loved and cared for you all so much and my heart goes out to you all."
Below her tribute, Coughlan emphasized that “Covid is still a real and present danger, please get vaccinated and mask up to protect yourself and others."
Phoebe Dynevor, Daphne Bridgerton in the series, was "Without words" in her Instagram story. It was her way to remember one of the great architects of the success of 'Bridgerton'.
Shonda Rhimes, creator of the series and a great authority in present-day television, also said goodbye to Marc Pilcher through social media.
"The passing of Marc Pilcher is beyond words," the famous producer said. "I will forever be in awe of the incredible hairstyling and makeup work that he brought to Bridgerton."

Pilcher himself had expressed his excitement with the project that 'Bridgerton' presented to him. When he received his Emmy in September, the hair and makeup artist called the Netflix series "the most exciting project" in which he had participated. He added that the response of the public to the series was much bigger than he had expected.
Marc Pilcher had already worked in important productions such as 'Downtown Abbey' and 'Mary Queen of Scots. For his hairstyling in the latter, he had even gotten an Oscar nomination.
Before passing away, the stylist had finished his work for another big production: 'The King's Man', a prequel in the series of spy movies directed by Matthew Vaughn. The movie will be released on December 22, 2021, after several delays due to the coronavirus pandemic.
