Halsey turns 27: a powerful artist and mother
On September 29, 2021, the American singer Halsey turned 27. She made a shotgun career through YouTube, a Billboard number 1 album, and a viral music video with BTS. She's also become a mother this year.
Ashley Nicolette Frangipane was born in New Jersey in 1994 to a North African father and a Caucasian mother. She played violin, viola, cello and acoustic guitar before she turned 14.
Born for music, she made a name for herself on YouTube. The star didn't perform as Halsey but as Ashley Frangipane.
Ashley Frangipane went viral with covers of Ed Sheeran and One Direction songs. In 2012 and 2013 she was an icon on the video platform.
At the age of 20 and already a big name on YouTube, Ashley decided to take her career a step further. She released the track 'Ghost' on SoundCloud. It was so popular that the label Astralwerks signed her to record an album. The singer released an EP with videos, 'Room 93'.
At that point, she adopted the stage name Halsey. It is not only a variation of Ashley (her real name) but also the name of a street in Brooklyn, New York, where she lived as a teenager.
In 2015, Halsey went from doing covers on YouTube to having her own music tour. She shared the stage with Rising Sons and Olivver The Kid and opened for Imagine Dragons. In the meantime, she worked on her first album.
In June 2015, Halsey released her first single, 'Hold Me Down.' It was part of the album 'Badlands' that came out in August that year. She travelled around the world for months to promote it and perform for thousands of fans.
The singer of hits like 'Without Me' and 'Bad at Love' went from doing cover versions of Taylor Swift to being a shining star in her own right. Her personal style lies somewhere between indie pop, R&B and electropop.
Alanis Morissette, Nirvana and Amy Winehouse are some of Halsey's influences. Her lyrics draw heavily from the melancholy and brutal honesty of the 1990s and early 2000s. As the artist herself has commented on more than one occasion, her music is often about "being sad and having relationships."
In 2017, after two frantic years, Halsey released her second album. She promoted it with a picture of herself without clothes and carrying a rose. 'Now or Never' was the first single from the album 'Hopeless Fountain Kingdom' which went straight to number one on the US Billboard 200.
Her third album, 'Manic', arrived in 2020 after the singer had released 'Boy with Luv' together with BTS. This track accumulated more than a billion plays on YouTube.
In January of 2021, Halsey made news that had little to do with music. "Surprise!" she wrote to her 23 million Instagram followers. The photo of her baby bump left the world speechless. Halsey's pregnancy pictures, made by photographer Sam Dameshek, became legendary. They got more than 7 million likes on Instagram.
Halsey has long and openly talked about the fact that she wants to be a mother. She recounted in Rolling Stone that she had suffered a miscarriage once - in 2015, in the middle of a concert. "I beat myself up" over the miscarriage, she told the magazine, because she wanted "to be a mom more than I want to be a pop star, more than I want to be anything in the world."
Halsey had even talked about having some of her egg cells frozen and saved. Not (merely) because she wanted to be a mum - either single or with a partner - but also because she has endometriosis and might have problems conceiving at a later point.
In July, Halsey's baby boy came into the world. His name is Ender Ridley. "Gratitude. For the most 'rare' and euphoric birth. Powered by love," Halsey wrote on Instagram to announce the news.
Alev Aydin is Ender Ridley's father. He's a screenwriter and producer of Turkish origin who has written and produced shows for Netflix.

Alev and Halsey had been spotted together in March 2019, and Alev Aydin posted a photo of the two of them at a Los Angeles Lakers game. But they weren't a couple for all of the past two years. Far from it.
Before Alev Aydin, the singer had been in more or less long-term relationships with other famous people such as music producer Lido (2016-2017), G-Eazy (August 2017 - July 2018), Yungblud (December 2018 - October 2019) and actor Evan Peters, in the photo, with whom she broke up in March 2020. She was also with Cara Delevingne in September 2020.
In June 2020, Halsey and Alev had the word 'Seeds' tattooed on their feet. Did that mean that they were already trying for the baby back then, despite the confusing hints about their relationship?
Halsey did away with all the speculation. "My pregnancy was 100% planned, and I tried very hard for this bb. But I would be just as happy even if it were another way."
Do you know who's also trying to become a mother? Paris Hilton
In March, Halsey posted this image on her Instagram account (iamhalsey). She also shared it in a Story with the words "büyük melek," which means "big angel" in Turkish.
At age 27, it seems that Halsey has everything she's always wanted. Musical success, motherhood, and a the warmth of millions of fans and a loving home.
In August 2021, the singer continued working as if nothing had happened. She released an album / film experience titled 'If I Can’t Have Love, I Want Power'. In addition, Halsey is appearing in Saturday Night Live on October 9. She's is unstoppable!
